I recently updated my Galaxy S5 to the latest Android software (Marshmallow), and holy balls as if my battery didn’t last a long time in the first place. Now my battery runs out faster! Even if I’m on ultra power saving!

My contract expires this December. It can't come soon enough.

I’m wondering if there is something about Android that does this. My OG Moto X shipped with Kit Kat and, while it didn’t have great battery life it was ok. After updating to Lollipop it seems to have gone downhill. To be fair, though, it might just be because my battery is getting old.

I have Google’s actual vision of Marshmallow on my Nexus. It’s fantastic. I think your issue is with Samsung’s altered version. Samsung puts way too heavy of a hand in it’s ROM.

Ah the cries of every Samsung user near the end of their contract.

I’m thinking about trying a Nexus or Windows phone next. I’m not disappointed in my Samsung, but not thrilled with it either.

I know this has actually nothing to do with your post but I really hate the actual food marshmallow. The only times they’re good is when they’re roasted on a campfire or in Lucky Charms. And Lucky Charms is a crap cereal, even with crappy little marshmallows. Fuck marshmallows. Those dry chalky fuckers are the bane of my existence.

My S6's battery has been getting progressively worse as well. Usually down to 15% after 8 hours of moderate use.

Wow. My S6's battery life is phenomenal now that it has Marshmallow and Doze; sorry to hear that your S5 isn't seeing the same benefits.

Marshmallow runs fine on my Moto X Pure. Also, I got it months ago, neener neener neener.

Sometimes system updates just don’t work quite right when installed over top of a bunch of pre-existing data. Usually it can be cleaned up by doing a factory reset.

It’s very simple to back up your stuff. Google Play will remember all of your apps you installed. Google Photos probably already has your photos backed up. I use Google Contacts so all that stuff is in the cloud already. I use Nova Launcher and it has a built-in backup function. Just back up your texts with SMS Backup & Restore (I have it put the backup on Google Drive) then do a factory reset, reinstall your apps, log back into your accounts, and restore your texts from the backup.

It’ll probably fix your problems and you’ll be done in well under half an hour.

I had a S5 for 2 years. I wound up immediately getting a 7500mah oversize battery from Anker, and that beast would last 3 days on full power max screen everything. Aside from weighing, like, over a pound and not really fitting in any phone mounts, it was awesome.

I’m on a 6P now and I love it, but that battery spoiled me pretty bad.

Did you check your location settings? Marshmallow defaulted my s6 to high accuracy which killed my battery.

Just got a Lumia 950XL. it’s the dog’s bollocks. if you want to do “smart phone things” and not have every latest crap-app that exists or are tied to Android or Apple by your work I highly recommend Windows Phone / Win Mobile 10. This is now my fourth Windows phone (since 7.0) and I even just changed carriers from Verizon (who I’ve had for 20 years) to AT&T to keep on the windows phone train, since Verizon and Microsoft are having a corporate slap-fight and refuse to talk.

I had a Galaxy S3, brother had a S4, couple friends had S5, and I bought an S6. I should’ve known it was going to turn into rotten crap after 6 months or so but I told myself “maybe they finally got it right”. Nope.

Thankfully I convinced my girlfriend to get a HTC 10 instead of the S7.

I have a work phone, iPhone 4s, and my personal phone, Galaxy S5. Not totally tied to Android, although I like it and think it is worlds better than Apple. However, I also enjoy my Windows 10 PC. I’d be open to a Windows phone. I need to go to their store and play with some.
